Well, actually they leak the air you've paid good money to heat or cool!
Leaky ducts don't literally leak money, but it amounts to the same thing. A study by TVA indicated that the average duct system leaks between 25 and 30 percent Your energy dollar is leaking into thin air! Let's look at an example to get a sense of how bad this is. Here's the stats on our example home:
1500 square ft
8' ceiling height
This would make our internal volume: 12,000 cubic feet. Our heating and cooling system moves, 1200 cubic feet of air per minute through the duct system. (I know, math, but I'll give you the answer) At a 30% leak rate, the entire volume of air, 12,000 cubic feet, would be lost in just 33 minutes! That's a 30' wide X 50' long X 8' high block of air blown into space every 33 minutes and you paid to heat or cool it! But how can I know how much my ducts are leaking? And if I have them "sealed" how do I know the job was done right and they are actually sealed? A duct leakage test answers both questions. By performing a duct leakage test prior to "sealing" a duct system we can show you exactly how much of your energy dollar is "leaking" into space. Once the ducts are "sealed" then we perform another duct leakage test, this verifies that your ducts now are seal. Here's the highlights:
Pre and Post testing proves the work was done right.
Save money every day of every year.
We guarantee our work and put it to the test when we're done.
You save money year after year, your heating and cooling system works less increasing it's useful life and your comfort level is increased.
