What is performance testing? Performance testing is just that, testing that allows us to "measure" how your heating and cooling system including the duct work is performing. The same goes for the home itself, specifically air leakage rates which effect your comfort and how much it cost to heat and cool your home. When your car has a problem a mechanic will use various test equipment to locate the problem. Sometimes it just needs to be tuned up or adjusted other times repairs are necessary. Performance testing for your home and comfort system is much like this. We use various test equipment to locate the problem, then we can make the required adjustments or repairs that will increase the performance of your home and comfort system.
Why have it done?
It saves you money, every month!
Reducing duct leakage will reduce your energy bill.
Reducing the amount of air your home leaks will reduce your energy bill.
A properly tuned furnace or heat pump system uses less energy.
Save money even without replacing your current heating and cooling system by reducing the load.
Keep your system cleaner so it cost less to operate.
You are more comfortable!
A tight duct system along with a tight house increases your comfort.
Drafts from "leaks in the structure are reduced.
Dust, mold and odors from crawl spaces or an attic are reduced when air is no longer pulled into the living space.
Temperatures swings are reduced due to reduced cycling of your heating or cooling system.
Air Quality is improved!
Leaking duct systems can pull in dust and mold spores, even gases such as radon from crawl spaces where they are often located.
Odors from the crawl space or attic can be a problem with a leaking return duct.
Air drawn in through walls or floors may containing fiberglass or other contaminates that increase allergies or are harmful.
It answers questions that you cannot answer any other way. For example: The duct system:
Is it leaking?
How much is it leaking?
If repairs are made to "seal" it are those repairs effective?
How much improvement?
By performing a duct leakage test we can answer those questions. No guessing! What about your heating and cooling equipment
Is it performing properly?
Is it moving the correct amount of air through the duct system?
What is the actual capacity output of the system?
What about your home?
How much air is "leaking" into or out of the structure?
Do I need to make repairs to reduce this air leakage? If repairs are made to reduce this "leakage", how effective are they?
Utilizing state of the art testing equipment, we can answer these questions.
Performance testing takes the guess work out of the equation. Ever hear a contractor say: "It's worked like that for years, it must be ok" or " It looks ok to me" We provide you with information that is solid, real world. If repairs or upgrades are indicated, then we discuss your options. If you choose to make repairs or upgrades to your home or comfort system, then once these are completed we test again to verify that you got what was promised.
